Experience Manila at Night

Manila does not simply close down when daylight disappears. The evening can be one of the most enjoyable times to explore, particularly after the heat of the afternoon begins to ease.

A Manila night can be as simple as walking beside the bay after sunset, having a long Filipino dinner or seeing the illuminated skyline. You can also head into some of Metro Manila’s livelier districts and continue well into the night. Where you stay in Manila can make enjoying the night life easier.

Begin with Sunset at Manila Bay

One of the easiest ways to begin an evening in Manila is beside Manila Bay.

Arrive while there is still daylight, watch the sunset at Manila Bay, and stay as the waterfront and surrounding buildings begin to light up.

Roxas Boulevard gives you a very different atmosphere after dark. Traffic, hotels and city lights replace the colours of sunset, while the bay remains beside you.

Have Dinner Filipino-Style

Dinner is an experience worth allowing time for.

Try Filipino favourites, share several dishes rather than ordering only one, or use the evening to discover something you have never eaten before.

Our Try Filipino Food in Manila guide is a good starting point if you are new to Filipino cuisine.

See the City Lights

Metro Manila’s modern districts become particularly striking after dark.

Makati’s towers create one of the metropolis’s best-known skylines, while Bonifacio Global City in Taguig offers a newer urban environment of illuminated high-rises, restaurants and pedestrian areas.

Spend an Evening in BGC

For a more modern Manila evening, head to Bonifacio Global City, usually called BGC.

Restaurants, cafés, shops and illuminated streets make the district suitable for an evening walk as well as dinner. The contrast with historic Manila is part of what makes exploring Metro Manila interesting: Intramuros and BGC can feel like completely different cities while belonging to the same metropolis.

Experience a Livelier Evening

If you want more activity, Metro Manila also has districts filled with restaurants, bars, cafés and late-night venues.

Makati offers several possibilities, including the Poblacion area, while BGC provides a more modern alternative. Entertainment options vary enormously, so an evening can be built around food, music, drinks, shopping or simply walking around and taking in the atmosphere.

Go Shopping After Dark

Shopping malls remain an important part of Manila’s evening life.

Because malls combine shops with restaurants, cinemas, cafés and entertainment, visiting one in the evening can be considerably more than a shopping trip.

See Go Shopping in Manila for the different shopping experiences around the metropolis.

How Much Time Should You Allow?

Allow 3–5 hours for a relaxed Manila evening.

That is enough time to watch the sunset, have dinner and explore one area afterwards. Trying to cover several distant districts in a single evening can mean spending much of your time travelling through Metro Manila traffic.

Getting Around at Night

For most visitors, point-to-point transport is the simplest way to move between evening destinations.

Plan your evening geographically where possible. Manila Bay and nearby central-Manila attractions combine naturally, while Makati and BGC work better as their own evening destinations.

Our Practical Manila section covers transport and other information useful when planning your visit.

Enjoy Manila After Dark

There is no single way to experience Manila at night.

Watch the last colours disappear over Manila Bay, share a Filipino dinner, walk among the lights of Makati or BGC, or spend an easy evening shopping and eating.

The city you explored during the day can feel remarkably different after sunset.
