Go Shopping in Manila

From enormous modern malls to local markets and bargain shopping, Metro Manila offers a shopping experience for almost every budget and interest.

Shopping is a major part of everyday life in Metro Manila. Malls are more than places to buy things: they are air-conditioned social spaces filled with restaurants, cafés, cinemas, entertainment and services.

For visitors, shopping can therefore be an experience in itself — whether you want international brands, Filipino products, souvenirs or the atmosphere of a busy local market.

Experience Manila’s Mega-Malls

Metro Manila is home to some exceptionally large shopping centres.

SM Mall of Asia in Pasay is one of the best-known. Its location near Manila Bay makes it easy to combine shopping and dining with an evening by the waterfront.

In Makati, Greenbelt and the surrounding Ayala Center provide a very different experience, combining shopping, restaurants and landscaped outdoor spaces in the heart of the business district.

Other major shopping destinations around Metro Manila include SM Megamall in Mandaluyong and the malls of Bonifacio Global City.

Discover Filipino Products

Look beyond familiar international brands and use your shopping trip to discover products made in the Philippines.

Depending on where you shop, you may find Filipino clothing and accessories, handicrafts, woven products, locally produced food, coffee, chocolates, beauty products and gifts.

These can make much more interesting souvenirs than generic tourist merchandise.

Go Bargain Hunting

For a completely different experience, explore Manila’s traditional shopping districts.

Divisoria is famous for inexpensive merchandise and enormous variety. Clothing, household goods, toys, decorations, fabrics and countless other products fill malls, shops and market stalls across the district.

Nearby Binondo combines shopping with one of Manila’s most interesting food destinations, making the two areas easy to experience together.

Explore Greenhills

Greenhills Shopping Center in San Juan offers another well-known alternative to the conventional mall experience.

Its shopping areas are particularly associated with jewellery, clothing, electronics, accessories, souvenirs and numerous small independent sellers.

Browsing and comparing products is part of the experience.

Combine Shopping with Food

One advantage of shopping in Metro Manila is that you rarely need to go far to find something to eat.

Large malls contain everything from inexpensive food courts to cafés and full-service restaurants, while traditional shopping districts offer street food and small local eateries.

A shopping trip can therefore easily turn into half a day of browsing, eating and people-watching.

How Much Time Should You Allow?

Allow 2–4 hours for one major shopping destination.

If you plan to explore a district such as Divisoria and Binondo together, half a day gives you considerably more freedom.

What Should You Bring?

Comfortable shoes are worthwhile because Manila’s malls can be enormous.

For markets and smaller shops, carrying some Philippine pesos is useful. In large malls and established stores, electronic and card payments are widely available.

As in any busy city, keep your valuables secure when walking through crowded shopping areas.

Make Shopping Part of Your Manila Experience
