End the day beside Manila Bay and watch one of Manila’s most famous sights as the sun disappears beyond the horizon.

Manila Bay is famous for its sunsets. On a clear evening, the sky can shift through gold, orange, pink and red as the sun drops over the water.
You do not need an elaborate itinerary for this experience. Give yourself time, find a good position along the waterfront and enjoy one of the simplest things to do in Manila.
Head to the Bay Before Sunset
Arrive around 45–60 minutes before sunset rather than arriving just as the sun reaches the horizon.
That gives you time to walk along the waterfront, find a comfortable viewing spot and watch the colours gradually change.
The Baywalk and Roxas Boulevard waterfront provide some of the most accessible places from which to enjoy the view.
Walk Along the Baywalk
Turn the sunset into an evening walk rather than simply stopping for a photograph.
The Baywalk runs beside Manila Bay along Roxas Boulevard, giving you open views across the water. As evening approaches, people gather along the waterfront to walk, sit, talk and watch the sunset.

Watch Manila Slow Down for a Moment
Part of the appeal is the atmosphere.
Manila is a busy, energetic city, but the waterfront feels different as people stop to watch the sun disappear. Couples, families, photographers and visitors gather along the bay while ships remain visible farther out on the water.
Stay for a while after the sun has disappeared. Some evenings, the colours become even more impressive during the minutes after sunset.
Bring Your Camera
Manila Bay is naturally one of the city’s favourite places for sunset photography.
You can photograph the sun itself, silhouettes of people along the waterfront, ships on the horizon, palm trees beside Roxas Boulevard or the changing colours reflected across the water.
Clouds can actually make the scene more dramatic, so a perfectly clear sky is not always necessary.
Continue Into the Evening
Sunset does not have to be the end of your Manila day.
Afterwards, continue along Roxas Boulevard, find somewhere for dinner or head toward another part of the city for the evening.
If you have spent the afternoon exploring Intramuros, Rizal Park or Manila Ocean Park, Manila Bay also makes a natural final stop because all three are relatively nearby.

How Much Time Should You Allow?
Allow approximately one to two hours.
That gives you enough time for a relaxed waterfront walk, the sunset itself and a little time afterwards to enjoy the changing evening light.
Best Time to Go
The exact sunset time changes throughout the year, so check the day’s sunset time before leaving.
Aim to arrive about an hour beforehand.
Clear or partly cloudy evenings generally provide the best chance of a colourful sunset, although Manila’s tropical weather means conditions can change quickly.
Weather conditions can affect visibility and sunset views, especially during the rainy season. Our guide to Manila’s weather and seasons will help you plan your visit.
Experience a Manila Bay Sunset
Some Manila experiences require tickets, planning and several hours.
This one requires very little.
Walk to the waterfront, find a place overlooking Manila Bay and watch the city end its day beneath one of its most famous skies.
